MARDI GRAS SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER

Dr. and Mrs. Knight and the LCC Foundation hosted the 2nd annual Mardi Gras Scholarship Fundraiser on February 14th, in the historic Herrmann House (LCC President's Residence). Over $3,600 was raised to support the LCC Women's/Returning Adult Resource Center. The Center provides assistance with tuition, books, course fees and supplements the cost of transportation for returning students whose education has been interrupted and graduated high school more than six years ago.

If you would like to support the Center and its important work visit: Women's Resource/Returning Adult Center.

OVER 850 STUDENTS APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
This year's scholarship applications resulted in a record number of over 850 students who are asking the Foundation's assistance with tuition and fees. For the second year, students were able to use an online system that has made applying easier for students and more efficient for the awarding process. The Foundation was pleased to join our College partners with re-envisioning how to use scholarships to reward, retain and recruit students to LCC.

The next phase of the process involves a loyal and devoted Review Committee that will read and score applications. Students selected will be notified in April of awards for the 2015-16 academic year.

Unfortunately, due to limited funding we will only be able to provide awards for about half of the applicants. The Foundation believes that no one should be denied access to higher education because of a lack of financial resources.

Please consider a gift in support of student scholarships at Foundation Scholarships. For more information visit lcc.edu/foundation.
SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT THANKS DONOR
The LCC Foundation asks our Scholarship Recipients to send a personal note to the donor recognizing their generous support and how much it means to them. Here is a recent thank you from an LCC Fire Science Academy student and Firefighter Scholarship recipient:

"Dear Donors, I would like to thank you for your generous donation to the Lansing Community College Firefighter Schoalrship. The scholarship I was awarded is such a great help to me in bettering myself and preparing for the future. Until now my previous two years were funded entirely on student loans which I will have to pay off in the future, so this scholarship means so much to me.

I choose to commute to Lansing Community College because they host my desired major, Fire Science. I have completed the fire academy at LCC as well as the EmAT program. I am also two classes away from obtaining my associate degree in Fire Science. The programs at LCC have already paid off in helping me gain my current employment. However, I am not complete. I plan to obtain both associate degrees in fire science at LCC as well as participate in the 3+1 prgram with Lake Superior State University to earn a bachelor degree in Fire Science. These courses will help to separate myself from the other candidates pursuing full time firefighter positions, my ultimate goal.

With the numerous courses that lie ahead of me in the future, I cannot thank you enough for the assistance your donation has given me. This scholarship will help make my goals become a reality. Michael"

If you are wondering what you can do right now to help students who are trying to go to school but do not have the funds to do so, please make an investment in success. To give online visit here.
